(PHASES) Phase 5: For the Nice Girls
The word ‘nice’ is usually used for two reasons.
The first implies kindness.
Now, the second is rather demeaning;
seen as a sign of weakness,
a synonym for see-finish,
used by someone who intends to take advantage of you.
If the chances of being connected with the latter
in every romantic relationship was put into data,
I fear it would break such a scale.
Count your losses if you are not mean,
selfish, with an ulterior motive,
or intimidating enough to keep your partner on their toes.
You should not expect
that you’ll be desired simply because of who you are,
but for the sense of entitlement you did not sign up for.
Anticipate that your kind gestures
could be misinterpreted as flirting,
and absorb whatever responsibility comes out of it.
Your reserved nature supposedly makes you the peacemaker,
and you might be one abuse away from becoming a vulnerable adult.
You’re probably naive,
so, you should remain that way.
Overstretch yourself;
be sweet to all of their friends no matter what
learn how to be as cool as the ladies in their life,
even when you’ll be constantly reminded that you’re lacking.
You should embrace all of the mind games,
the gaslighting, the self-pity ritual,
the decorated insecurities beclouded with ego
and the miscellaneous thrown at you.
You should discard your doubts,
dismiss your intuition,
give the benefit of the doubt time and time again
— only because they ask for it.
But everything changes today.
You and I deserve to know that the right to choose exists,
to liberate ourselves from these expectations,
or even better — transform the distress
of these expectations into something beautiful.
This is better than the cheap plot
of posting fire pictures to make a lie true.
Hoping that they become plagued by the thought of you
every time they’re with someone new will never suffice,
Wishing that the guilt would eat them is not enough,
Frail amends will not stop every thought of yours from being theirs either.
Sometimes, what you need is to give karma a little nudge,
even if it means blurring the line between right and wrong.
One more time, make a ‘good’ pair;
Us, the classic case of a woman scorned,
and them, the ones who cannot genuinely reflect on their actions to save their lives
They would not have to worry about regretting,
remorse can wait.
And if they never felt such emotion, never mind either,
We’ll be the ones to hold the mirror henceforth.
Time’s up now,
and all that remains will be to burn whatever bridges are left.
Erase every lingering feeling and strangle the past,
till there’s no trace of the memories you both shared.
Save the rest of the girls the trouble,
and take them for everything they have — especially the things that keep them grounded,
Let them all be yours for the taking.
Have them trapped in their own minds and dismembered,
leave them with horrid cries, writhing, crawling and screaming,
Have their heads placed on a pike for your perusal.
As they burn slowly,
we won’t hear any of that,
All that’ll be in our ears are the sound of our laughter in satisfaction,
Like a dog with a tail between its legs,
they’ll sleep in the bed they’ve made.
And as their will fails them and they meet their end,
our recourse becomes complete.
Ruining them might not make the pain go away,
but it’ll be a chance to get even,
The start of a new dispensation,
A revolution to behold.
For the rest of our lifetime, we won’t have to be the bigger person.
